Instance domain

By default, the KibanOS dashboard is accessed at http://your-server-ip:8080. The instance domain gives it a proper hostname with automatic SSL.

What is the instance domain

The instance domain is a hostname that points to the KibanOS dashboard. Instead of typing 192.168.1.50:8080, you type kiban.example.com.

This is optional. The dashboard always remains accessible at IP:8080 as a fallback. The instance domain only adds a nicer way to reach it.

Configure it

Go to Settings and enter a hostname in the Instance Domain field.

kiban.example.com

When saved, KibanOS adds Traefik labels to the dashboard container and restarts it. Traefik starts routing the hostname to the dashboard.

DNS record

Create an A record pointing your hostname to your server IP:

A kiban.example.com → your server IP

Ports 80 and 443 must be reachable for certificate issuance and renewal via HTTP-01 challenge.

SSL certificates

KibanOS automatically obtains and renews SSL certificates through Let's Encrypt for the instance domain. No manual configuration is needed.

When you set the instance domain and open ports 80/443, Traefik handles the ACME HTTP-01 challenge and provisions a certificate automatically. Renewal happens in the background.

Testing? Use staging mode in Settings → TLS to avoid Let's Encrypt rate limits while testing. Disable it before production use.

Behavior

  • The dashboard remains accessible at IP:8080 unless you close that port manually.
  • Clearing the instance domain removes the Traefik labels and stops routing through that hostname.
  • The instance domain only affects the KibanOS dashboard, not installed services.
